Basics: Overbreeding pets and characters for Deva classes
hello everyone, i'm going to try and explain to our new players about the overbreeding system.
when you make your first job transfer on the trainee's island to either holy warrior, breeder, or cleric, you start off at job level 1 in that current class (while keeping all previous job levels in the "guide" class).
as you progress through the game, you will attain character levels and job levels respectively. Once your character is level 50, you achieve rank 3, allowing you to wield higher level equipment. Once you are character level 50, your job level by then should be near or at 40. Keep in mind your character level is seperate from your job level.
if you are confused on how you increase your job level, you can talk to some of the guide in the trainee's island, or just follow these quick instructions...
(1) click the sword icon on the bar at the bottom of your screen, it will be next to the "inventory" icon that looks like a bag or chest. if you are using the standard hotkeys, then you can simply hit "alt" then "s", which will bring up the job skills window.
(2) once the job skills window is open, you should read what your current job level is, and on the side, you can see how much your next job level will cost (job points-wise). if you have enough job points, click the "level up" button. this will increase your Job level by 1.
p.s. when you increase your job level, new skills might become available to you for increasing. check your skill tree and decide which skills you'd like to level. Also, you might gain additional hitpoints/manapoints when you job level up.
OK, now that we've established how to increase your job levels, let me explain the overbreeding system.
when your character is level 50 and job level 40 (in current class), you will have the option to transfer to your second job. holy warriors can become either knights or soldiers, clerics become either bishops or priests, and breeders become soul breeders. you can transfer your class by talking to any of the guides in katan, horizon, or laksy.
HOWEVER...once you transfer from your current class into another one, you CANNOT continue to increase your job level in the class you transferred OUT of.
Once you've reached job level 40, you can see in your job skills window that you can still increase your jlevels if you have enough job points. these additional job levels past job level 40 will increase your base stats, making you more powerful in relation to your character level. the maximum job level in the first and second tier classes is 50.
should you decide to stay your current class and increase your jlevel to 50 before transferring, your character will be in the process of "overbreeding". Once you've attained all job levels (50) in your current class and transfer to the second tier class, your character will have been successfully "overbred".
note: you cannot transfer to your second tier job BEFORE character level 50 & job level 40. if you are overbreeding your character, you will still gain EXP that goes directly to your character's level just as you would normally. there are no EXP penalties or benefits. many players who have reached full overbred in their current first job class are around character level 60 before they transfer, so it will take some time!!!
characters aren't the only ones who can overbreed!!!! pets can too!!!! i will now discuss the fundamentals in overbreeding your pet.
the pet system in rappelz is quite in-depth for a free MMORPG...thankfully! your pet can level up just as your character does. there are some differences though in the pet leveling system. one of the more prominant ones being pets do not obtain job levels nor do they gain job points by defeating monsters or completing quests.
instead of classes, pets have an "evolution" system. all pets once they are first tamed begin at level 1 and evolution 1.
for a pet to gain EXP, they must be summoned into your formation and they must be within your character's line of sight when you defeat a monster or mob. depending on the level of the monster you kill, your pet will gain EXP. if the monster is a much higher level that your pet, your pet will gain an ENORMOUS amount of experience. this will continue until your pet has leveled within the parameters of the mob's or monster's own level.
if your pet is a much higher level than the monsters you are killing, he will gain little or no EXP from them. also, when you complete a quest, your pet is unaffected by the amount of EXP you are granted. PETS CAN ONLY GAIN EXP FROM KILLS!!! in addition, pets do not have a stamina system, which means they do not gain additional EXP benefits from stamina savers, hidden village passes, tents, etc. there are certain items within the game that act as "stamina savers" for pets. such as animal crackers =)))) which give a certain additional percentage of EXP stacked on the basic EXP from killing a monster.
IMPORTANT: if your pet is the same level, or a higher level than the character who summoned it, IT WILL NOT GAIN EXP!!!! you cannot level your pet unless the pet is at LEAST one level below your character level. =(((
pets lose EXP based on their current level whenever they die so be careful when training/breeding!!!!
OK, now that the pet EXP system is hopefully explained, i will discuss the pet overbreeding.
once your pet is rank 3 (level 50), you can change the evolution of your pet from evolution (evo) 1 to evo 2 by talking to any of the breeders in katan, laksy, or horizon. when this is done, your pet will become stronger, bigger, better, cooler, sweeter, awesomer, happier, rockier, groovier...you get the picture. it will also allow access to new pet skills and improve old ones.
i did not mention the pet skill system yet, because i wanted to wait until you've reached this far in the guide. pets have access to a completely different skill tree than your character. some pets are more suited for tanking, some for heavy damage dealing, some for magical attacks, and some for ranged attacks. you can access the pet's skill tree by...
(1) clicking on the "creature skills" icon on the bar at the bottom of your screen, or
(2) if you are using the standard hotkeys, hit "alt" then "r" which will open a small pet window that will appear somewhere near your character's level/combat box on the top of your screen.
(3) double click on the tiny little pet window, and the creature skill window will open.
(4) there are different tabs in the pet skill window. the main window shows your pets' current skills and stats, and the other window shows what skills are available to level. the "active" tab has all available "activated" abilites your pet can level. the "passive" tab lists all available "passive" abilities your pet can level.
(5) as i mentioned before, your pets do not have job points. instead, they are granted one skill (point) at each level the obtain. (they begin with 1 skill point at level 1) you use these skill points to level the skills listed in the pet skill tree. some skills take only 1 skill point to level, some take 2, some may even take more!!
so now that i've somewhat explained the pet skill system, let me finish my little overbreed guide...
once your pet has reached level 50, you have the option of changing its evolution. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS HOWEVER!!! you can level your pet in its current evolution before making the transfer! just as it is with your character, this is the process of OVERBREEDING.
once your pet reaches level 60 in its current (first) evolution, it becomes overbred. this makes your pet much much tougher than the normal level 60 pets!! you are granted additional skill points per level as well!!!!!!
p.s. you will know when a pet is overbred by hovering your cursor over the pet's summoning card. if the pet is overbred, it will show a +(the number of additional levels) along with the normal pet level. it will look something like this:
+10 Lvl 60 Orc
well, that is the basics of overbreeding. i will write another guide to advanced overbreeding for your character's second tier classes and your pet's other evolutions.
hope this has helped all your beginners out there =))) i do not mind if you copy and paste this guide somewhere else on another forum, or if you print it out and use it. just keep in mind who wrote it =)))
good luck
***edit*** in the advanced guide i will briefly discuss the re-specialization items and how to use them!
